YSPP Volunteer PicYSPP depends on the support of many different volunteers.

We love our volunteers and appreciate ALL they do to help meet our mission of preventing youth suicide.

Volunteers Making an Impact

We currently have more than 30 volunteers working with us in communities across the state. Each volunteer is expected to attend training to learn more about youth suicide.

Scot Reynolds, one of our newest volunteer board members excitedly reported that he had already applied the skills that he’d learned in his training-orientation. Scot explained that a colleague was despondent about his failing business. Scot noticed some of the warning signs that he had learned and admitted proceeding with some fear and trepidation to ask his colleague directly about thoughts of suicide. The colleague acknowledged that he had a rope in his car and was planning to end his life and to end the pain and humiliation of living. Scot is an independent business owner – not a social worker or counselor - but his new knowledge about suicide prevention and his willingness to get involved saved a life.

An amazing way to begin a three year term on the YSPP volunteer board!

Becky Lui

"I believe that public education is extremely important, especially for a topic as taboo as youth suicide. Wishing to help others understand more about suicide causes and methods of prevention, I decided that the most effective way for me to make a difference would be through the sharing of my graphic design skills. I want to utilize my knowledge for effective visual communication to help YSPP connect with a wider range of audience.

Through the redesign of an information brochure and a take-away card, my goal has been to create a more friendly and relaxed appearance in YSPP educational literature, so that the public would not feel stressed or embarrassed to engage in learning. I feel wonderful that I can do something I really enjoy while contributing to an important cause."
